Week one of Lent is down, and I am finally ready to share my Lenten promise. I had to make sure we had delicious recipes to share as they are all new!:)

This year, the family and I selected a big one and started Whole30. Whole30 is cutting out the majority of my vices and forces me to look at the hardships in a new way. Like many people, I normally try to handle all of life’s stresses on my own. This includes binge eating and not admitting needing help from God, friends and family. Well, when you cut out all the quick worldly fixes, you fall back on what is truly important you faith, family and friends.

For those who are not familiar with Whole30, it challenges you to eat whole foods for thirty days. Here is the summary from Whole30. To read more about Whole30, click here.

Certain food groups (like sugar, grains, dairy and legumes) could be having a negative impact on your health and fitness without you even realizing it. Strip them from your diet completely. Cut out all the psychologically unhealthy, hormone-unbalancing, gut-disrupting, inflammatory food groups for a full 30 days. Let your body heal and recover from whatever effects those foods may be causing.

Learn once and for all how the foods you’ve been eating are actually affecting your day to day life, and your long term health. It will change the way you think about food, it will change your tastes, it will change your habits and your cravings. It could, quite possibly, change the emotional relationship you have with food, and with your body.

Well, the first week is up, and I am passed seeing people as donuts and cheeseburgers. I am ready to share my journey and recipes from the first week! For those who think I am off my rocker for starting Whole30, you might be right. 🙂 It is a big commitment and sacrifice, but I am up for the challenge.

For my friends who are looking for healthier meal options, try some Whole30 recipes. You can substitute a few of the ingredients to have a delicious, healthy meal without running to Whole Foods every day like me. Just google the strange ingredient and it will give you a standard household item. Regardless if you stick with the recipe as created or switch a few things out for convenience, Whole30 recipes are truly a delicious option for a healthy meal that even the pickiest eaters will enjoy.
