Learn of my First Trimester Don’t List
At nearly 27 weeks, I am far enough away from my first trimester to share my first trimester don’t list. As a first time Mom, I was woefully unprepared for the reality of the situation. Who would have thought that such a small thing could reek havoc on your life.
First Trimester Don’t – #1: Don’t underestimate the power of the tiny human you are growing!
I thought I was prepared, I was wrong! Over the years, I have had massive hangovers which I thought would prepare me for the none stop sickness of my first 16 weeks. A hangover and morning 24/7 sickness are not the same. I know this can be different for each person, but I wish someone would have knocked me down a few pegs on my confidence scale. I would have walked lightly into the forest instead of puffing out my chest boldly stating that I go this.
First Trimester Don’t – #2: Don’t make major and semi-permeant decision about your toilet!
Right at the start of my pregnancy, I flew up to Minnesota for a friend’s wedding. Thankfully, my dear friend is a mother of two and could guide me through the woes of first trimester. She gave me all the tips and tricks that she could. Without her, I might still be on the ground crying.
After a particularly long day, we got Freddy’s for dinner. It sounded good all the way until the fast food bag was in the car. From the moment on, I knew it was a mater of time before I had a late night date with the toilet. Two seconds after sprinting into her house, I was downstairs in her basement clinging to the toilet for dear life. It that moment, I swore by the delightful toilet bowl cleaner which gave the unpleasant situation a minty fresh aroma.
I made a bold and oh so wrong decision while laying on the floor. I told Brad to put a bowl freshener in our toilet at home. He followed instructions and I regretted it every day going forward. Throwing up in a minty fresh bowl, one time, is delightful. Throwing up in a minty fresh bowl for the next twelve weeks is torture. Do not make bold decisions in the moment…you will regret it.
First Trimester Don’t – #3: Buy food in bulk!
One Sunday evening, I swore that homemade broccoli slaw salad would be the item of the week. I thought it sounded good all day so I went to the store and bought the many ingredients. While putting it together, my mind was changed. It now looked like the grossest item in the world. Broccoli was evil and I never wanted to look at it again. Needless to say, the 2 pounds of broccoli slaw was given away. Still to this day, I question ordering broccoli.
Pregnancy is 100% worth the woes of your first trimester. For those Mom’s out there like me, it does get better. Hang on and remember to not make bold decisions within this time of your life.
