distancerailThe older I get, the more my wardrobe looks like Johnny Cash. Black on black is so easy to look fabulous in and get ready in a jiffy. I always like to pair mine with a statement piece. In my world, this typically means a bold necklace or shoes. Recently, my new favorite trend is to break up the black with a jean jacket. With the crazy weather, it is a wise decision. 🙂

For today’s look, I took my favorite oversized v-neck shirt with black skinny jean. I dressed it up with a lovely long pink necklace which helps make the shirt a bit more defined. To finish the look, a pair of big wedges to make me look taller than 5′ 3″.

brick bluebold pantsWho doesn’t love a good pair of bold pants? They can go from business to bar in an easy switch of a blazer to a jean jacket. These blue beauts have been a staple in my wardrobe for two years. They make any situation a bit more fun with the bright blue pattern that is just daring enough but appropriate for any situation.

Enjoy photos from our first photo shoot. Brad and I had a blast shooting in front of an awesome vintage brick wall. Believe it or not, that brick building use to be a one school room house. Now it hosts killer parties!

Whole30 Paleo Steak with Mango Salsa

Whole30 | Paleo Steak with Mango Salsa is the perfect weekend meal for anyone who wants to enjoy local shopping and have a delicious dinner!

On slow Saturday’s Brad and I like to run to a local butcher shop and get meat for a week. For my dear friends in St. Louis, you must check out Paul’s Market located in Ferguson. The cuts of meat are lean, and the prices are reasonable. Given the opportunity, I always love to shop locally. On Saturdays, this is easier, as you can start your day at the Ferguson farmer’s market and hit up Paul’s market for lunch and grabbing delicious cuts of meat for the week.

After a morning of running, if you are like me, you are ready for a relaxed evening. For Brad and I, this includes a full Whole30 and Paleo approved meal that is full of flavor and small on calories. Our Whole30 | Paleo Steak with Mango Salsa fits my needs.

Whole30 | Paleo Steak with Mango Salsa is refreshing and has a hidden kick with the chili powder and the jalapeño pepper in the salsa. It is surely mouth watering. We also love to pair Whole30 | Paleo Steak with Mango Salsa with homemade guac and a large lettuce leaf to act as a wrap. It allows this dish to transform into yet another meal!

Whole 30 Balsamic Steak and Mushroom Skewers

Whole 30 Balsamic Steak and Mushroom Skewers is a keeper at the Wester household. While our official Whole30 program is finished, I still try to cook Paleo and Whole30 compliant during the weekday. It is a simple way for me to keep off the 20 pounds that I have lost and work on the last stubborn few.

On one of the few dry nights this week, Brad and I busted out the grill to try my new recipe – Whole 30 Balsamic Steak and Mushroom skewers. I was blown away! The steak was fulfilling, as all red meat is in my opinion, but had a delightful complexity about it. The balsamic adds a surprising flavor that is not too overpowering, but just enough of a new take on an old classic. Read more

Mojito

Many years ago, a good friend of mine taught me how to make the perfect Mojito on a sunny Missouri day. We were sitting around her pool gabbing away about everything and nothing when the mood struck. She immediately grabbed her keys flew out the door to get ingredients from the store. Not sure what stream of genius hit, I followed without understanding the mission at hand.

We combed through the store grabbing just the right ingredients until our cart was full and I was unsure what concoction this would make. As quickly as we flew to the store, we were home preparing to make the perfect Mojito. Emily has never used an actual recipe. She learned from her father who was born in Cuba and has mastered the art of eyeballing the recipe. Read more

crystal river

Brad and I were looking for an adventure on this trip. My usual Florida schedule is wake up, eat something, grab my book and layout. While this is lovely for me, it can get a bit boring for Brad. Our idea of fun at the beach is vastly different as someone does not tan. We decided that this trip, we would move past tanning to take an adventure and discover a new place of Florida. We tossed around a few ideas but finally landed on Crystal River.

Sand Key

backwater'sBackwater’s on Sand Key is one of my favorite restaurants off of the island. Before you get alarmed that it is off the island, let me explain. Clearwater is part of a string of islands that outline the Florida coastline. San Key is to the south of Clearwater and can be accessed by taking a bridge over the inner coastal. It takes only about 5 minutes to reach Backwater’s. It is 100% worth the small drive, and they have free parking in front of Backwater’s. It is in a small strip mall so keep your eyes peeled.
