Blue Apron Recipe|Beef Tartines

Blue Apron’s Recipe for Beef Tartines with Zucchini au Pistou was the first meal that started my love affair with Blue Apron. Beef Tartines are a french inspired open-faced sandwich that includes all of my favorites – melted cheese, toasted bread and red meat! I was confident that this would be delicious, but I was shocked at the level of yum!

Adding capers to the Beef Tartines adds a tangy aspect that surprises your tongue and bringings a complexity to the dish. The Beef Tartines are paired with a side of sauteed zucchini that is topped pistou to perfectly accompany the main entree. It gives you veggies without steaming a bag of frozen broccoli. 🙂

Blue Apron makes cooking fun and easy. They will provide you with all the ingredients that you need to make a delicious meal in exactly the right proportions. Start your Blue Apron experience today! Click here to receive two free meals on your first order. Read more

Beef Arepas Recipe

Brad and I love Blue Apron because it always challenges my cooking skills and taste buds. I have had more variety  of cuisine in the past month than I ever thought I could cook. My go to in our marriage has been grilling, Whole30, Mom’s favorites and easy Mexican or Chinese dishes. I never dreamed of cooking authentic cuisine like Blue Apron has taught me. You too can now try Blue Apron with 2 Meals Free on Your First Blue Apron Order!

Beef Arepas with Pickled Onion, Avocado & Radishes was a Blue Apron hit at our house. For those who are not familiar with the dish like me, Arepas is a specialty of Venezuelan and Colombian cuisines. Arepas are flat, round cornbreads that we made by hand and quickly cooked in a frying pan. Ours was dressed with spice beef and pickled onions, but you can fill you arepas with a wide variety of toppings.

Kate Spade Plates

For those of you have been following Scrumptious Style for a while, you have noticed we have a variety of plates that photograph on. When we first started, we purchased square white plates. The hope was to mimic the big brands, simplify the background so you could really smell, taste and want the food through an image.

Well, that concept worked for an entire week before I boycotted the idea. Given the choice between cleaning my special blog plates or opening a bottle of wine, turning on Netflix and throwing words on paper… I go with the latter.

To make it even more confusing, my every day Kate Spade plates come in two varieties.

  1. The grown up classic white plates with fun texture
  2. The funky bold pattern because I am never growing up

Regardless of the style, I love my Kate Spade plates. I don’t splurge on much, but these were a great decision. The quality is wonderful. Also, if you are lucky you catch them on sale like the ones below! I love my classic white and my pop of color equally. I am just grateful I am not using my hodgepodge of plates that were adopted from college roommates, older brothers and great-aunts. You have seen these on occasion too as I hate to do dishes. 🙂 Read more

Whole30 Paleo Steak with Mango Salsa

Whole30 | Paleo Steak with Mango Salsa is the perfect weekend meal for anyone who wants to enjoy local shopping and have a delicious dinner!

On slow Saturday’s Brad and I like to run to a local butcher shop and get meat for a week. For my dear friends in St. Louis, you must check out Paul’s Market located in Ferguson. The cuts of meat are lean, and the prices are reasonable. Given the opportunity, I always love to shop locally. On Saturdays, this is easier, as you can start your day at the Ferguson farmer’s market and hit up Paul’s market for lunch and grabbing delicious cuts of meat for the week.

After a morning of running, if you are like me, you are ready for a relaxed evening. For Brad and I, this includes a full Whole30 and Paleo approved meal that is full of flavor and small on calories. Our Whole30 | Paleo Steak with Mango Salsa fits my needs.

Whole30 | Paleo Steak with Mango Salsa is refreshing and has a hidden kick with the chili powder and the jalapeño pepper in the salsa. It is surely mouth watering. We also love to pair Whole30 | Paleo Steak with Mango Salsa with homemade guac and a large lettuce leaf to act as a wrap. It allows this dish to transform into yet another meal!

Whole 30 Balsamic Steak and Mushroom Skewers

Whole 30 Balsamic Steak and Mushroom Skewers is a keeper at the Wester household. While our official Whole30 program is finished, I still try to cook Paleo and Whole30 compliant during the weekday. It is a simple way for me to keep off the 20 pounds that I have lost and work on the last stubborn few.

On one of the few dry nights this week, Brad and I busted out the grill to try my new recipe – Whole 30 Balsamic Steak and Mushroom skewers. I was blown away! The steak was fulfilling, as all red meat is in my opinion, but had a delightful complexity about it. The balsamic adds a surprising flavor that is not too overpowering, but just enough of a new take on an old classic. Read more

Mojito

Many years ago, a good friend of mine taught me how to make the perfect Mojito on a sunny Missouri day. We were sitting around her pool gabbing away about everything and nothing when the mood struck. She immediately grabbed her keys flew out the door to get ingredients from the store. Not sure what stream of genius hit, I followed without understanding the mission at hand.

We combed through the store grabbing just the right ingredients until our cart was full and I was unsure what concoction this would make. As quickly as we flew to the store, we were home preparing to make the perfect Mojito. Emily has never used an actual recipe. She learned from her father who was born in Cuba and has mastered the art of eyeballing the recipe. Read more
